Analysis of a Pertinent Healthcare Issue

The national healthcare issue/stressor

The Quadruple Aim provides broad categories of goals to pursue to maintain and improve healthcare. Within each goal are many issues that, if addressed successfully, may have a positive impact on outcomes. For example, healthcare leaders are being tasked to shift from an emphasis on disease management often provided in an acute care setting to health promotion and disease prevention delivered in primary care settings. Efforts in this area can have significant positive impacts by reducing the need for primary healthcare and by reducing the stress on the healthcare system.

Changes in the industry only serve to stress what has always been true; namely, that the healthcare field has always faced significant challenges, and that goals to improve healthcare will always involve multiple stakeholders. This should not seem surprising given the circumstances. Indeed, when a growing population needs care, there are factors involved such as the demands of providing that care and the rising costs associated with healthcare. Generally, it is not surprising that the field of healthcare is an industry facing multifaceted issues that evolve over time.

In this module’s Discussion, you reviewed some healthcare issues/stressors and selected one for further review. For this Assignment, you will consider in more detail the healthcare issue/stressor you selected. You will also review research that addresses the issue/stressor and write a white paper to your organization’s leadership that addresses the issue/stressor you selected.

To Prepare:

Review the national healthcare issues/stressors presented in the Resources and reflect on the national healthcare issue/stressor you selected for study.

Reflect on the feedback you received from your colleagues on your Discussion post for the national healthcare issue/stressor you selected.

Identify and review two additional scholarly resources (not included in the Resources for this module) that focus on change strategies implemented by healthcare organizations to address your selected national healthcare issue/stressor.

The Assignment (3-4 Pages):

Analysis of a Pertinent Healthcare Issue

The National Healthcare Issue/Stressor

Healthcare is a potent field evolving based on new knowledge acquired from research. One of the pertinent healthcare issues with the uptake rising is interprofessional collaboration. Interprofessional collaboration is a process where various healthcare professionals work as a team involving the community, patients, families, and caregivers in providing high-quality care (Gardner et al., 2022). The main motive behind it is coordination allowing every person to eyeshot healthcare from each point of perspective, hence furnishing high-quality patient-centered care. Previously, healthcare workers worked in groups involving specific health professionals where solo acts were emphasized. In contrast with the times we are in today, healthcare workers are advocated to work in teams containing different healthcare professionals. This essay aims to describe the impact of interprofessional collaboration on a healthcare organization, summarize an article on interprofessional collaboration exploring how the issue is addressed in other healthcare organizations, and look at the strategies for managing the organizational impacts of interprofessional collaboration and their effects.

The Impacts of Interprofessional Collaboration on Healthcare Organizations

Most healthcare organizations are cautiously clasping interprofessional collaboration, where its impact has been boundless. This can be clear as the coordination of patients has essentially ameliorated (Lutfiyya et al., 2019). It is notable from rounds made in most healthcare organizations that different healthcare professionals, such as nurses, pharmacists, and physicians, are present, improving work efficiency and patient outcomes and even reducing cases concerning adverse drug reactions. Interprofessional collaboration has effectively minimized the rate of staff turnover, as inceptively it was reported that most people leave organizations due to frustration as a result of poor coordination, but after the implementation of an interprofessional collaboration program, healthcare professionals are seen to be jovial and pleased with their positions (Ndibu Muntu Keba Kebe et al., 2020). Due to increased collaboration and improved communication resulting from the interprofessional collaboration, the rate of medical errors has essentially reduced as undermined communication is connected to an improved probability of a medical error.

Quality of care provided to the patient attending healthcare organizations has also improved due to various factors as a result of interprofessional collaboration as it has made it simple to refer a patient from one healthcare facility to another as it ensures all the necessary patient information is transferred a long side with the patient. Hence, minimizing risks that occur to a patient during transfer. Ameliorated communication ensures that every detail of a patient is comprehensively taken care of because of the adequate flow of information among healthcare professionals (Kuroda et al., 2021). Maximum attention and improved quality care are provided to patients when a healthcare team is formed around a patient. Interprofessional collaboration has placed different professionals in many healthcare organizations at the same level. Eventually, healthcare workers can work as a unit and push agendas to improve patient care and the working state of healthcare workers as a platoon.

The Strategies for Managing the Organizational Impacts of Interprofessional Collaboration

Numerous strategies are used in addressing the organizational impact of interprofessional collaboration. Research and systematic reviews can be used to address the organizational implications. Research may involve the administration of questionnaires to healthcare workers and patients, asking them about their experience with interprofessional collaboration (Balice-Bourgois et al., 2020). Patients’ questions should be based on whether the quality of care has improved due to interprofessional collaboration, while those of the healthcare workers should be based on the effects of interprofessional collaboration on their optimism and job satisfaction. Such strategies positively affect healthcare organizations as they make it possible for the quality of care provided to be accessed and offer opportunities to improve services.

Conclusion

Healthcare is a potent field evolving based on new knowledge acquired from research. One of the pertinent healthcare issues with the uptake rising is interprofessional collaboration, where Interprofessional collaboration is a process where various healthcare professionals work as a team involving the community, patients, families, and caregivers in providing high-quality care. Most healthcare organizations are cautiously clasping interprofessional collaboration, where its impact has been boundless and evident as patient coordination has essentially ameliorated. Overall interprofessional collaboration has been a great benefit, having significantly contributed to the provision of high-quality healthcare services. More research should be performed on the impact of interprofessional collaboration in order to develop more effective strategies for implementing interprofessional collaboration.
